While you saw the clues in her account of her struggle from her original emails to you, you also saw intuitively, this was so, that she has been suffering from the effects of a chronic onboard virus that is affecting her mind, her thoughts and feelings, leading to emotional strain, depletion, and dysfunction. So this could be communicated to her in follow-up and would be a useful outreach that still is applicable for her betterment.
