This is very much the case that the complex of symptoms including excess weight gain are all related to an individual patient responding to the presence of a chronic disease causing virus. Not all will have as marked a response as to develop all of the signs and symptoms of metabolic syndrome, even with the same virus as others who do have the entire complex, including their metabolic disruption of glucose regulation and insulin handling. This illustrates a common difficulty when medical diagnostic labels are given based on symptom profile and are often an arbitrary subset of sufferers of the same malady but with somewhat differing presentations. That is one of the ways progress is limited. Doctors settle for a label rather than true and deep understanding of what is happening in their patient that needs help.
