It was where human ingenuity was taking things and became the legacy because the process was there, the raw materials were obtainable, and it was a logical step, and all that was needed was the will and a way to force things in the desired direction. This was seen to and became the plan and then the way of things and that has continued through momentum. A regeneration of vehicles builds on the technology of yesteryear and this seems to be perpetual but, in fact, is an aberration and illogical on its face with a basic understanding of energy. There are better solutions, there just needs to be ingenuity and an allowance of freedom of thought and the right ideas will come forward and, if embraced, will solve the problem for all time.
