DWQA QuestionsCategory: DisinformationWhere does the apparent healing of autism with the use of CDS (chlorine dioxide solution) fit into these explanations? The people working with this say that it is parasites that are being removed that heal it.

Unfortunately, what these workers are seeing and reporting lumps together many misinterpretations. There is an overgeneralization that parasitic illness is rampant and the underlying cause of many disorders. In part, they use the effectiveness of antiparasitic treatments as indirect evidence for this, when in fact, those treatments like chlorine dioxide have a number of chemical effects that can influence tissue function directly. That has nothing to do with antimicrobial actions. This is not to say chlorine dioxide is without benefit in many circumstances, but the benefits for autism are not reproducible and this is a misleading promotion of something with utility in other settings but cannot be relied on to benefit true autistic individuals. Keep in mind that people with autism suffer from physical maladies, including infections, just like other people do. So when a substance with antimicrobial or antiparasitic activity produces a change in behavior or relief of symptoms in an autistic person, that might not be a direct effect on their autistic state per se but a behavioral reaction to the alleviation of pain, discomfort, or restoration of better energy balance within the person because invading organisms have been attenuated, and is being misinterpreted as an effect on the mind and the impairments associated with being on the autistic spectrum.
