Indeed, this is very much the case. It is important to control human thought because they know people with their thinking can make things happen, especially when they come together in a group effort of some kind as in a worship service. They have seen this demonstrated many times so they take extra care to undermine religious practice, so they have encouraged a misdirection of science in ways to make religion seem improbable, or at least unnecessary in explaining the reality of existence, for example. So the scientists are praised and admired by society as being the "big brains" who are too smart to fall for religious superstition and are emulated by many in society when in fact the practice of science, in being so heavily corrupted and narrow in its thinking, continues to disempower humans as its main function—this is seen to by the interlopers.
