The answer here is quite simple. All would have died were it not for the prayer requests that marshaled the resources and the resolve to attack this problem in earnest and see it through, in the course of which, many, many things would have otherwise gone wrong and it would simply have not been possible to reach them. And after a prolonged struggle, they would have been given up for dead. There are many times this is so, but goes unheralded because people will not have a basis of comparison running along in parallel to show them that something very special did happen. There are many divine rescues, and in fact, the entirety of humanity has been saved from great destruction more than once. This is all a reflection of the power of prayer. Keep in mind that it is the humans who are in charge, so why shouldn’t their thoughts and desires have great power? They have the power of the Divine in our absence from stepping aside to allow humans to run their world as they choose for purposes of growth and learning. This is why when humans join together, things can happen, and when they reach out to the Divine together, their reach is much, much greater, and this is when the miracles happen.
