This is the true meaning of the saying, "Virtue is its own reward." A virtuous life is the best protection against all hazards because it creates a standard of excellence for measuring anything that might happen, whether done to you by others or requested of you to carry out. Another applicable saying is, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." This illustrates that people have a personal obligation to watch out for trouble, to not be naïve and over-trusting in a world where things do go wrong and people are not always reliable. So living in a divine partnership, with a working knowledge of the rules of the road for living a virtuous life, is the best defense against wrongdoing because you will likely sense quite keenly when something underhanded is underway, and you will be in a position to back off or demand an explanation to further clarify things and not continue to be at risk of being taken advantage of. The fact such things go on and take place on a quite large scale, and are practiced all around the world by nation-states and the institutions they comprise, is frankly, an indictment of the lowly level of your culture.
