This scenario is the very description of a moral compromise, the aforementioned moral flexibility in action. It will be a breach of divine principles, taking a person out of divine alignment and incurring a karmic penalty in the doing, and that eventually will circle back around to the perpetrator to experience something unpleasant as a consequence. The intent is for this to be a wake-up call, to perhaps trigger soul-searching and a chance for the conscience to be pricked and save them from further misdeeds. Someone who chooses to become a hired gun, so to speak, to engage in wrongdoing for their livelihood, is, in effect, making a pact with the darkness that will not serve them but, in fact, take something away—they will be digging a hole for themselves that will be harder and harder to climb out of. A world of light beings would never engage in such activities because they have a keen sense of morality and know with certainty the cost to them will be significant for indulging in wrongdoing. This is the problem with your world, that with the Law of Karma in abeyance, that latitude allows people greater chance for wrongdoing for a longer period of time than healthy. When people get away with something, this will encourage further breaches of morality, and the slippery slope can become a downward spiral with greater and greater excesses and transgressions that become harder and harder to rebalance to regain higher ground.
