This is always for a short-term goal that makes sense and creates an advantage, such as use for herbicides, insecticides, preservation from spoiling, and so on. What is not in the awareness consciously of humans involved in decision-making is the degree to which they are being manipulated to be complacent about long-term effects. That blind spot is deliberately orchestrated and has influenced many things to the negative.
