DWQA QuestionsCategory: Divine RealmThe movie, Flatliners, featured medical students inducing a near-death experience and then being resuscitated with conventional medical means. That this seems like it would be the height of folly is an understatement. What is Creator’s perspective on this fictional storyline? Was the movie divinely inspired?

Many will find this a curious response but we can tell you the movie was divinely inspired despite the casual way the borderland between life and death was explored in a reckless fashion by these individuals not fully understanding what they were doing. We often will give inspiration to people, to plant seeds for the future. Even in material that can be quite dark in many ways, it is good to have a possible turning point represented in some way or a glimmer of goodness, reminding people that goodness still exists and there is a possibility of rescue, even in the direst of circumstances. Given the level of human depravity on exhibit many times in many places, it is certainly the case that far too many human beings experience extreme challenges that leave them helpless and perhaps unable to do anything about their circumstances to save themselves. Having but a fleeting remembrance of something lofty, perhaps a hymn learned as a child, can build a bridge to the divine and allow divine energy to come and support them—that can make a difference, small or large, as the case might be, depending on the level of need and the balance of forces, and the overall karmic imperatives that might have engineered a difficult situation to begin with. But the subject of death and near-death is a very, very important one. It makes a strong case for perpetuation of the soul after death of the body. So anything that makes clear there is still a conscious perception that lives on, is illustrating reality, and people need to hear and understand this notion because it can change their life if they start to think deeply about the implications. In fact, the reality of the near-death experience when taken seriously, even by atheists, has helped many change their beliefs to begin, and then strengthen, an awareness of the divine and its existence. So any opportunity for such an awakening that comes along, we will add our energy to, where we can.
