Here again on display is a large-scale manipulation of the inner beliefs of the intelligence officer being trained and encouraged to adopt an external and arbitrary perspective that serves a higher human authority, but not necessarily at all, the individuals being encountered and potentially manipulated by the intelligence officer in carrying out his duties. To be sure, people do act irrationally at times and are frequently overemotional, and this is largely because of prior wounding, and so their emotions may not be fully appropriate and perhaps even working against them. But to categorically deny their value and place in a person's life, such that they need to be discounted and worked around in a detached way, through maintaining a position of power and control, is a soul-deadening exercise that, in a way, denigrates the other party by disregarding and thus discounting who they are, at least in the moment, with their thoughts and feelings. This is, in effect, a kind of dehumanization being carried out to desensitize the trainee to discount the feelings and concerns of others in service to current marching orders the intelligence officer is expected to carry out, often without regard to the personal impact and consequences on others.
