Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease can lead to liver failure. Is that a manifestation of viral infection?

Interestingly, the nonalcoholic fatty liver is displaying pathology due to the physiologic and metabolic changes following a chronic virus presence within that organ. The liver is attempting to shield itself from what it is experiencing as a chronic attack, at a low level at least, by the immune system as a consequence of trying to combat a smoldering chronic virus infection.
