DWQA QuestionsCategory: Divinely Inspired MessengersJeffrie Murphy had this to say in his article about forgiveness and mercy in the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy: “Forgiveness and mercy are regarded as virtues in many moral and religious traditions, although different traditions will emphasize different aspects. The Christian tradition, for example, tends to emphasize purity of heart as the core of the virtue of forgiveness, whereas the Judaic tradition gives priority to the social dimension of reintegration into the covenanted community. Forgiveness involves the overcoming of anger and resentment, and mercy involves the withholding of harsh treatment that one has a right to inflict.” With this assertion, divine mercy would involve the withholding of harsh treatment that the divine “has a right to inflict” via judgment or, more accurately, karma. What is Creator’s perspective?

Here again is the common problem of human beings trying to understand the divine through a human lens, a human perspective, a human-level set of beliefs and assumptions based on inner feelings in the absence of definitive knowledge. This is quite understandable, but it would be better to be more accurate and precise about such important matters as the workings of the divine and the relationship of humans and the Almighty in terms of expectations, evaluations and assessments, and the consequences of divine action or inaction, as the case may be. So, first of all, we agree an act of forgiveness seems, on its face, to be countering an act of judgment, but we would say that is not necessarily the case because there is a middle ground here between tolerance, and even uncaring about the wrongdoing of someone, and a desire to unleash an angry rebuke and punishment for the wrongdoing. That middle ground is having discernment to understand there is wrongdoing underway, but with a perception it is happening for reasons of personal difficulty, impairment, even weakness, perhaps out of frustration from not having greater inner strength or development to be a better person to begin with, through no fault of their own, or having been victimized by others, being unable to rise above that, and carrying out hostile actions that are ventilating inner frustration, fear, and anger on the part of the wrongdoer. Why then would we seek to harm a victim further simply because they are misguided in how they handle their quandary? What is needed across the board is further teaching, as you are doing through GetWisdom, about our perspectives and beliefs about humanity, the many descriptions we have given for you that illustrate we are dispassionate, we are lofty, and we have discernment to know the difference between the light and the darkness, between good and evil, and the difference between mistaken beliefs and actions through distortion, corruption, and a state of incompletion having not acquired maturity and wisdom and a more divinely aligned way to handle difficulty. So having described why forgiveness is divine, in the sense of applying understanding, reason, and healing love for those who struggle, suffer, or have gotten out of alignment through misdeeds as a perpetrator, we would say our conduct is better described as "dispensing mercy" as opposed to "forgiveness" in the withholding of harsh judgment and punishment as that is never an answer, in the immediate sense, in helping someone to progress. In effect, it is fighting fire with fire, and that is never a good idea, it hardens people to make them bitter and resentful, if not angry. People who are not in alignment will often not be able to see their wrongdoing with any kind of perspective and are not ready to learn. It is better to give them time, along with some ongoing support, and to work on healing what led to their misbehavior rather than harming them further, as they have harmed themselves greatly through wrongdoing. That is where karma comes in, it is not dispensed by us directly in reaction to what we see, think, and feel about the actions of a wrongdoer. We have an automatic system of great precision and accuracy, weighing the energies of all that happens, and applying a response that will redirect both positive and negative energies launched by a person to circle back to them at some point in the future. What this means is you are all your own judge and jury deciding on the merits, or lack of merit, in all you do, and seeing you receive like treatment, in some way or another, as a comeuppance to rebalance what you threw out of alignment in deploying your energies, or added beneficially to the universe, in which case you will receive rewards and blessings commensurate with your contribution. So because this system of reckoning is already in place and works quite well, for humans to have a parallel system of justice that is more a dispenser of retribution is not only unnecessary but invites a compounding of problems, and this is a liability inherent in attempting to adjudicate everything. It is especially difficult in a world of distorted thinking because of the widespread corruption brought to you by the interlopers.
