This is very much the case. The mechanism is one of amplification, and that is what is served by these consciousness repositories to begin with—they are a sounding board, they are a reflection of the being on a personal level, but they also are a mirror for society, and people can go and see the doings of others and take stock where things might be in a general sense, and come away with a consensus of thinking and belief about an issue of concern. And this will influence the individual greatly and their attempt to fit in with society at large, and may well cause them to ignore their own inner beliefs and override their doubts in order to look good and gain the acceptance of their peers. All of this perpetuates such problems and aggravates them, and is part of the difficulty in fostering change, because human nature is working against that at every turn by using these repositories as guidelines, as role models in a sense, because they are seemingly standards of conduct and are presumed to be not only representative, but needing to be followed, embraced and mimicked by oneself, even when they are faulty notions. The need to be accepted is quite strong and this causes many to ignore their own personal would-be standards of behavior and take part in something that may be evil in some way.
