There are minor effects of tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, but the major anti-seizure pharmacologic effects are due to cannabidiol and other minor constituents of the makeup of cannabis as extracted from the plant itself. So as a therapy for epilepsy, it is not necessary nor advisable on other grounds to use psychoactive cannabis in treating seizure disorders.
This has happened over and over again with a continued cycle of psychoactive substances coming into vogue, creating excitement, developing many adherents, and then when damage ensues among large numbers of people, it falls into disfavor once again only to be rediscovered by a future generation. That will be the case here, that one day the use of cannabis indiscriminately will be seen with horror and serious questioning about how people could be so naive, but that is human nature on display when manipulated to be complacent about possible dangers in the face of a reward that has addictive qualities and can easily become a habit that is very hard to break.
