Chronic virus infection is the cause of 100% of cases of age-related macular degeneration from the damaging effects of a long-term smoldering virus presence, and the consequences of the body attempting to contain this threat causing collateral damage. That takes a toll over the years from the mounting tissue injury that eventually leads to vision impairment.
