We agree with that assertion in the sense that fear, by far, is the most common and the most negative of influences in the array of things that can go wrong and undermine the person in a significant way. Perhaps the most useful way to differentiate emotions on a continuum, encompassing the spectrum of positive to negative, is to think of bliss at the extreme of positive possibilities, with shame and humiliation at the opposite end, but not much above the extremes of humiliation and shame is fear, and that will have many degradations and intensities, and there are indeed many words to describe levels of fear from disquiet and hesitancy, to sheer terror.
Hatred is a type of anger, and while it is certainly negative, and actually debilitating because it robs the soul in being so loveless by nature, it is far from being the weakest state of being. In fact, anger is just above the midpoint on the vibrational scale of the emotional spectrum, so it is healthier to be angry than to be fearful because being angry, at least, taps into some inner strength and resolve, and is often a motivation that leads to a positive action in seeking to solve a problem or dilemma. A little bit of righteous anger can go a long way to empower people to right wrongs and see things are truly taken care of in a way to rebalance inequity and unfairness.
Fear is far less useful and mostly unproductive. While it has a contribution in providing a warning that might first come as a sudden fear in seeing the signs of danger, for example. Beyond that, fear is generally debilitating, it saps the strength, it weakens the being, and creates a state of helplessness when reaching too great a level of intensity that can, in fact, end in personal destruction from an incapability to even defend the self in the face of an attacker—hence the description, "frozen in fear." The nature of fear is a kind of recoiling to shrink back, to escape through disengagement and withdraw into the self, none of which can solve problems or provide effective action that would carry someone forward looking for a solution, effectively. It is a state of surrender in the moment that can become a chronic liability when it takes over the life and becomes, in essence, a lifestyle of living in fear instead of experiencing anything that could bring change or a reward of some kind, and perhaps provide some relief and strengthening to build on.
In an extreme state of fear, people can become so debilitated they are truly helpless and may never recover without assistance, and that must be of the right kind. There is a tremendous need for healing for one in fear, but because healing is an aspect of divine love and a state of fear is incompatible with feeling love or expressing love, a divine outreach cannot engage very effectively with someone in that state of mind and strong emotional deprivation. What being fearful does is to create a powerful intention to run away, to flee, or to hide and disappear. In other words, to disengage, and, as a human intention, must be honored by the divine, even when requested to do a healing intervention on the person's behalf—that is why fear is so very destructive and acts in opposition to love, and why overcoming fear is so very important in order to make progress and create a happy life experience.
