It would certainly have eased things although there would likely have been some personal obligation still needing a personal sacrifice to some degree in order to have the learning needed for such a large transgression. But what would have happened was that with the karmic energies descending on him, his time of suffering would not have to have been extensive if a Protocol session were done for him when he began to suffer. This would have truncated things, in a time sense, so that he could rise above it more quickly and the need for suffering overall would be much less.
This is not cheating, it is simply living smarter and allowing people to progress more rapidly to rise above their mistakes. This is what everyone would like to see—that criminals are rehabilitated and become model citizens on rebounding from their time of misalignment and seeing the errors of their ways, going boldly forth on a new path to make contributions to society and live a good life rather than a dysfunctional one. When humanity does this as a matter of course for all transgressions, big and small, the world will change overnight and become a much friendlier, happier place indeed.
