Unfortunately, the heavy-handed role of government agencies does continue to constrain the nutraceutical industry. There is a valid role of government in helping to maintain safety standards as well as valid and honest claims in the promotional marketing of such products, but the difficulty is that this commercial sector is increasingly in direct competition with big pharma and the medical establishment who have been misled into seeking synthetic chemicals to treat anything and everything as a kind of folly, whereas the real answers lie in nature for most human needs. So the government oversight continues to act as a wet blanket and major constraint on public acceptance of this approach for helping human well-being.
