Unfortunately, like most tap water, there is a quite long interval taking place between water being taken from the natural reservoir, in this case, the Great Lakes, and then being processed through a water treatment facility, and then on to large storage tanks with eventual transfer through the water mains to reach your home. That introduces a considerable delay and containment of the water under unnatural conditions and this will greatly reduce its quality through the elimination of most of the living things within the water. While microbes can persist under such conditions, that is less true of the life forms we have been discussing. They are more fragile and therefore, more susceptible to being destroyed.
