Unfortunately, this can happen. But that is true of medicine and psychologic interventions as well. We would not recommend throwing out the baby with the bathwater simply because outcomes may not be perfect. This is an example of perhaps knowing too much for one's own good, if it leads to the discouragement of people from getting help through available means simply by dwelling too much on a possible downside. As you know, everything done by medicine is invasive and has side effects in some cases. That does not mean all medical advice and solutions need to be avoided. This is rather obvious, because many times side effects are minor and can even be withstood without danger, simply in being ignored in order to gain a greater benefit of a prescription drug, for example. So the trade-off is to gain despite the imperfection.
