Having a hypothesis which, in effect, is a kind of supposition, if only a provisional one that is likely to be discarded at some point down the line, is reflecting a kind of conditional and temporary belief held for the moment for purposes of an exercise, perhaps to probe something further or keep seeking validation that the hypothesis is correct, and to marshal evidence one way or another to justify belief or to reject the hypothesis as false and therefore unworthy. So the terms "faith" and "belief" are very, very helpful in understanding how one goes about understanding the world and appreciating the virtue in things, or the lesser virtue, and choosing among opinions that then might become facts or belief-level, as worthy of being embraced and followed as to their consequences in making decisions about life, of all kinds. So this is a rather important undertaking and, in effect, is the major goal of existence. The soul journey consists of seeking enlightenment, which is a return to divine alignment having high‑level wisdom, and that is only achievable when one has deep knowledge and awareness of things.
Being in Creator’s presence constitutes proof of the divine and an experience you will have one day again. In the meantime, being down in the darkness of the physical realm you inhabit, you have little to guide you but belief, or at least faith to start the process of belief and cultivate it and strengthen it in order to grow and gain a further strengthening in the doing. That is the virtue of holding faith, it will strengthen you and will cultivate belief at the same time, and this will serve you greatly when it comes to belief in the divine because we are real, we are your origin and your destiny, both. So that hypothesis, "there might be a God," is not folly but will serve you tremendously in lighting your way to making real and true progress so your hypothesis is one day confirmed.
