Epsom salts have a kind of cleansing effect applied externally, as in a bath, for part or the entire body. There is a danger with internalization because the level of exposure cannot be controlled by the average person to do it intelligently, so this is best thought of as an external cleansing adjunct. It is not a magic elixir that has great healing powers in and of itself. The chemical constituents, for the most part, will not penetrate the skin barrier itself, so it is more a physical cleansing agent and a psychological support phenomenon than a deeper mechanistic chemical treatment.
