At the risk of stepping on toes, we can tell you that this, as well, is a metaphorical description intended to convey that Christ's incarnation was a divine plan and not that of an ordinary human. The details have become magnified and even glorified in people's thinking as a consequence of so much focus by the church to encourage self-denial of sexual gratification, for example, in order to be Christlike. This has caused many generations of clergy and religious workers to punish themselves as a presumed test of faith and devotion, and that part of the interpretation of Christ's appearance on the Earth was a distortion deliberately instituted to cause human suffering, and this is one of the examples of how the rise of evil has brought much alteration of things in order to hinder the workings of the divine.
