This story is a mix of reality and myth. It is real in the sense there was a foreknowledge on the part of Noah that the waters would inundate the land and he did prepare by creating a great ark in order to survive the Great Flood and was divinely inspired to do so, in keeping with the biblical account. But he was not single-handedly responsible for preserving the many thousands of species of animals, let alone plants, present on the Earth in those days, but the ones of greatest interest within his awareness that would be needed as seed stock, so to speak, to propagate and restore the populations. That rescue operation was under divine oversight and received significant support as well, for it to be successful—this was in answer to prayers and so was in keeping with the rules of engagement for divine intervention.
