DWQA QuestionsCategory: Animal IssuesA viewer asks: “How do dogs communicate nonverbally?” What can we tell him?

Dogs are highly intuitive and can communicate with one another through a kind of telepathy. It is sending a kind of imagery to the animal to get their attention and convey a general demeanor, chiefly, whether positive or negative, perhaps as a warning. They do use body language; for example, the wagging of the tail which usually is disarming but also can reflect eagerness and intensity on the part of some more aggressive animals. They have a definite play stance that conveys the message, "Let's go! Let's play!" But their facial expressions are nowhere like human with the wide variety of nuance in meaning, but most canine interactions are limited in their nature to begin with. So the body posture and movements towards or away from another dog will serve to foster or limit interactions through signaling intentions.
