DWQA QuestionsCategory: PrayerA practitioner asks about the following prayer: “‘May all beings be peaceful and happy. May all beings be safe and well. May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature. May all beings be free.’ This prayer for loving kindness of the Buddhist tradition appears to help raise those feelings when I repeat it. Is this able to promote my emotions to higher energies of loving kindness? Would it help raise my compassion and intention before doing the LHP?” What can Creator tell us?

Your impression is valid on all counts here, that holding the intention for those things to happen is lofty and in divine alignment, and to create such thoughts and any feelings they give rise to will raise your vibration and impart a good feeling that will be positive and supportive of doing healing work. That is fine as far as it goes, but what this description means is, what is taking place you see of value is a self-determined and self-implemented maneuver to help your state of being become more positive, at least for a time. But, as a prayer, it fails on all counts because it is a solitary endeavor that begins and ends with your own thoughts and feelings. It is a wish more than a prayer, a desire for a betterment to happen, and that is a lofty notion to have and a positive thing to experience in the moment in the same way thinking about laughing babies and frolicking puppies will bring a smile, but is a unitary and isolated experience because there is no connection with anything beyond the self, energetically, that comes about.
