A client expressed concern about a statement in A Course in Miracles that we are living in an illusion and we must simply escape. What is the true meaning here?

The true meaning is the human dilemma of being so disconnected, and it is the need for greater divine awareness and the embracing of the divine, not an abnegation or denial of all things including the spiritual. It is the realization that humans are trapped in this state of disconnection and also manipulation and subjugation both, and therefore, lacking a tether, and a robust lifeline, and a source of greater knowledge, and healing that can be relied on to work seamlessly with no effort on their part. This is not the way of things at present. All are working at a disadvantage from their disconnection and their large backlog of unhealed karmic mischief, self-caused and imposed on them by actions of others causing harm to them. There is much needed for each person to advance further. This will not happen in a vacuum, so the escape from illusion is thinking that your life is what it appears to be on the surface. And by breaking free, what is needed is a reconnection to the spiritual level as that is the true home, the true origin, and the true answer for life’s problems.
