A client asks: “Why did my prayers fail for protection from loss of my new sunglasses purchased in the summer?”

Prayers for such protection always factor in circumstances from moment to moment. It is easier to protect a person from the effects of others than it is to protect them from their own mistakes and carelessness. The latter are a karmic event done by the person themselves. We cannot stop people from making errors. We may be able to impart a message to make them notice a risk that is being taken and if they notice the message and respond appropriately, it may work to prevent a loss of this kind, but if the message cannot be given or is not noticed, then events will play out according to the energies launched by the person, and is their doing. Even though the divine realm is willing to help support and protect them, there are always certain limits to what can be bestowed. This is largely in the control of the person launching the prayer and will be governed by their energy and how things change from moment to moment and day to day.
