In 1992, Hurricane Andrew was off the east coast of Florida and predicted to continue north, but strengthened and made a right-angle turn inland around midnight and devastated Miami-Dade County. Hurricane Ian just eerily repeated this pattern. It was expected to hit Tampa, but instead turned abruptly east and went right through Fort Myers.
