TikTok is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, which was fined for violating child privacy laws in the United States. A researcher reverse engineered TikTok and determined the app collects everything about a user’s phone and tracks exactly where all its users are at all times. There are claims it does things not just unethical, but illegal, and sends all the information back to China. Is this app strictly intended to support commercial exploitation or is there a more sinister influence and purpose for software like this?
