These are soul-based beings and their story is not too dissimilar from what has befallen humans and other civilizations visited and then exploited by the Extraterrestrial Alliance members. Keep in mind not all are forced into slavery directly and manipulated to a severe degree as with humanity. Some are given latitude to do their own thing, so to speak, but visited occasionally and in some cases to expect rewards in tribute to them as a superior race within the galaxy that is capable of annihilating them entirely if they do not cooperate. So, in that respect, there are many civilizations that have autonomy with the exception that they are beholden to the Anunnaki and/or the other members of the Extraterrestrial Alliance interfering with humanity and so must obey their requests. So if they are unlucky enough to have things valued by the Alliance members, they may well be plundered to take a large portion of their productive efforts of a material nature in exchange for being left alone much of the time.
In the case of the Mantids, there is interest in them for potential exploitation at a higher level and this is, indeed, the case due to the unusual nature of the Mantids, because they are quite different from most humanoid sentient beings and the Anunnaki see this as a potential advantage, because there is little likelihood of undue sympathies developing within the Mantids about a humanoid civilization they may be entrusted to oversee and exploit. So that is a major aspect of the interest and tolerance in the Mantids by the Anunnaki.
