Faith and belief are two terms that are often used interchangeably. However, truth be told, there are subtle differences and nuances that you might want to know and understand.
While subtle, these differences may help you understand where you are in your journey and give you direction for where you’d like to be.
Without further ado, let’s dive right into these differences:
Faith is a waystation to belief
This may sound like it underplays the importance of faith and its need, but it’s the most necessary prerequisite to anything. Having faith in what is in store for you, what you hold to be true, and knowing that no matter what comes your way, you’ll be alright is what gives you the solid ground to hold your own.
It builds the foundation of your belief
Speaking of solid ground, faith is what builds the foundation for belief. Without faith, it’s hard to hold onto a belief or make your way to a state where you feel confident, self-assured, and steadfast. We continue to use faith to express our conviction in the righteousness and truth of our beliefs.
Simply put, faith is an expression of belief. When you truly believe in something or even yearn to believe in it, you remain confident that things will fall into place simply on the principle of faith alone.
Belief is the desire for enlightenment
Belief is perhaps the last state of mind and existence before you reach true enlightenment. It’s knowing that there is something greater in store for you, and you need to work toward that goal, which is obtaining Divine knowledge, getting close to Creator, and orienting your life to Divine principles.
It may feel like you’re in a place of faith, but not full belief, or that you’re losing faith despite your strong belief. No matter what you’re struggling with, remember there is always hope and ways to find your footing.
