DWQA QuestionsCategory: Physical UniverseA viewer asks: “What can you tell us about the ‘Oumuamua discovery’ observed by telescopes to be a strange oblong interstellar object that appears is passing through our solar system?”
Nicola Staff asked 4 years ago
This is simply an asteroid-like body that was part of stellar debris ejected from a nearby star system and has been traveling through space, most recently through your solar system where its presence was detected by telescopes. It is not an artificial construct or spacecraft but an interesting interstellar object worthy of study if that could be done. Unfortunately, it is now on its way out to the outer reaches of the solar system and beyond, so that will not happen.
