This individual is now safely in the light due to a divine outreach and rescue requested on his behalf. His was, indeed, a targeted killing to wear him down and then finally push him over the edge to make it look like a natural death when such is not the case. He would still be thriving and going along just fine without the relentless onslaught directed against him.
