The currently available vaccines will work as effectively against this new variant, so it is more a scare tactic than a new and larger threat. The real threat remains the evil ways of the Extraterrestrial Alliance inflicting this on humanity in the first place, and now ramping up the numbers of people exposed to cause more and more damage.
