Whereas in the previous life, this dog was quite skittish and quick to react to the mildest adverse stimulus at human hands because it had learned through hard life lessons that humans might be friendly but might turn on him and inflict pain, and this exaggerated any potential harm the dog might see developing and would quickly conclude it was in danger and would attempt to escape.
