There is some truth in your assumption here and this is often a consequence of karma, a prior experiencing of suffering for one’s belief, and creating an inner conflict about embracing belief in the divine yet again if it is perceived as putting the person at risk of being condemned, tortured and killed, which may well have happened. True believers through the ages have been maligned and imperiled again and again. The onslaught against belief is relentless because it is a major preoccupation of the hidden Cabal truly running the world—the Extraterrestrial Alliance and the dark spirits they work with—to undermine people at every turn and corrupt their thinking and institutions to diminish the quality of life and restrict your options and diminish you as a consequence.
Atheism is the creation of a hollow and empty existence in the end, because it separates you from the greatest force of the universe, which is divine love. That is truly cutting your lifeline, your wellspring of inspiration, and all those things that make life worth living because all things that make life worth living are forms of love and, in the experiencing, become the incentive, the reinforcement, and the reward for all human undertaking. If you live for and through and by love, you will be on the divine wavelength and will be a partner with the divine, as that is the purpose of existence, and what Creator wants to see you involved with and benefitting from.
To the extent you turn away from this reality, you will be diminished more and more and your isolation will leave you vulnerable and alone when you might need the divine most. That is the human dilemma at present, that you are actually in peril, but most do not know this and they no longer have a divine friend to call, and this creates tremendous risk for the whole of the human enterprise. This is an ultimate folly and an example of, in a perverse way, overprescribing rational thought as an ultimate expression of reality and as an ideal and standard for human pursuit.
Again, the key is the definition employed of what is rational and what is less so. The divine has a different perspective altogether because its concerns are larger than your life, being one of dealing in a material realm with material level problems largely, and trying to reconcile that with the need for love you feel deeply within, and must contend with many situations when love is lacking. The hard-won learning in getting back into divine alignment is, in a sense, a love journey and a love education, all of which will contribute to your seasoning and the deep learning you must endure and embrace to reach higher levels that are your destiny.
