We would say that there is no need for a slavish adherence to a precise schedule, thinking simplistically that if you regulate dietary intake according to the clock, that will regulate the body accordingly, and provide greater well-being as a benefit. In actuality, you were designed to be highly adaptable and flexible, given the vicissitudes of finding food, which in the beginning were the consequence of opportunistic behavior, to be in the right place at the right time to find something through foraging. Given the vicissitudes of weather and other circumstances, meals were always unpredictable and, in fact, periods of fasting are a benefit in fine-tuning the metabolism. This is part of your very design. So we would say the most desirable schedule would be periods of deprivation interspersed with the availability of nutrition, but for most, that would be counterintuitive.
