DWQA QuestionsCategory: Healing ModalitiesA study was just published claiming to show that exercise can reverse Parkinson’s disease: de Laat B, et al. “Intense exercise increases dopamine transporter and neuromelanin concentrations in the substantia nigra in Parkinson’s disease.” NPJ Parkinsons Dis. 2024 Feb 9;10(1):34 and promoted in a press release: Backman I. “High-intensity exercise can reverse neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s.” Yale School of Medicine Press Release. February 23, 2024. How does this fit with what you have told us, that Parkinson’s disease is caused by a virus?

The two are not at all in conflict. There are many things that help the symptoms of viral attack on organ systems and physiological derangements that result. This, in fact, is all that medicine does, it is giving nostrums that counteract the visible signs and symptoms of illness without truly reaching the fundamental causal factors, and that is why they might be needed on a chronic basis, and even for a lifetime, because they do not cure. The treatment is only symptomatic. That is what is happening here with the application of a physical exercise regimen. The beneficial effects of exercise on body systems is already well-established. It is the closest thing to the fountain of youth one can do personally to benefit their health and well-being. This includes a neurotrophic effect in the central nervous system that can rejuvenate and replace lost brain tissue, but that is simply adding a healing effect on top of a disease to make at least a partial restitution, and even though that has visible benefits, it does not mean the disease has been halted or reversed, only there is now more of a holding action keeping it at bay. It is still best to treat the underlying cause of the Parkinson's as that is the only way to achieve a permanent solution.
