DWQA QuestionsCategory: ReligionsA viewer asks: “In the Bible story of Jesus calming the Sea of Galilee, “Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:23-27) Was Jesus, through Creator, speaking directly to the wind and sea, or was he also, in part, speaking to the interlopers who may have churned up the storm that threatened the apostles? What can Creator tell us?”

This is an insightful reinterpretation of a story from the Scriptures. It was, indeed, the case that this was an unnatural storm and Christ was sensing this, so his remonstrations were not illogical, ill-considered, or inappropriate. Sometimes nature is acting through truly natural forces, but when it is extreme it is much more likely to be the case there is an outside consciousness intervening to stir up trouble. That is true for all kinds of weather and natural phenomena that can be troublesome or even lethal to human beings.
