DWQA QuestionsCategory: PrayerA viewer asks: “Creator, what did Jesus pray for in the Garden of Gethsemane?” What can Creator tell us?
Nicola Staff asked 6 months ago
This was a series of prayers bearing directly on what Jesus knew was coming, namely his arrest, incarceration, and likely death at the hands of the powers that be. So, by turns, it was a focus on his personal dilemma, wanting divine support and guidance in dealing with the tremendous burden it represented, as well as considering the fate of those who depended on him. First of all, his inner circle of disciples and loved ones, and then the wider group of people who would be harmed through their ignorance and unwitting complicity in the forces of evil converging on him. Keep in mind that although he was a high-level divine extension imbued with greater than normal spiritual reach, he was also human. That is not in any way a betrayal or a lessening of the image of Jesus Christ as an exalted figure. After all, it was his humanity, the pain and suffering he bore in the trials and tribulations visited on him, that constituted his great sacrifice and the magnitude of his contribution as a divine emissary—an example for all time of the power of human‑divine partnership and what it can accomplish, in raising up the mind and heart and restoring divinity within for those who need awakening, or perhaps an example to follow. His contribution, in doing so successfully, has been enormous.
