DWQA QuestionsCategory: Extraterrestrial InterlopersAre all viral-caused dementias due to strains of Epstein-Barr virus or is some other, or a variety, of organisms involved?

Epstein-Barr virus strains are the major culprit here, but there are others as well. So here again, is another variable, because individual viruses may cause somewhat differing tissue changes and that will complicate things in seeming to reflect a variety of perhaps completely unrelated pathologies, thought to be influenced by environmental toxins perhaps, or heterogeneity of genetic endowment creating weak links in the makeup of the brain, functionally, so one type of dementia occurs versus another in a given individual. Meanwhile, the elephant in the room is the true missing culprit, an invading virus that causes damage directly, as well as through indirect host defenses attempting to contain it.
